Coming up to finishing the wire, just started season 5. I'm gonna need a new series that I can watch everynight before bed, so game of thrones is out of the question because it's only on once a week. Oh and the last 3 shows I've watched have been crime based so something new would be good. I'm thinking lost, is it worth commiting to?

Speaking of Rome, he could go back a few years and watch I, Claudius.

Doctor Who Series 4 - 9/10

Depressing ending for a depressed character. Lots of interesting stuff throughout the entire series. So, what next? I popped in the first Series 5 disc...and suddenly Matt Smith.

A couple minutes on Google later, and I find out there was all sorts of stuff between the last episode of Series 4 and the first episode of Series 5. Wiki says he regenerated in an episode called End of Time (or something like that). I look that up on Amazon, and see a twenty dollar DVD. Into the cart it goes, but hang on...

I remember seeing a box at Best Buy that had a BUNCH of episodes in it including one called End of Time (or something like that). So I look THAT up and find four 'stories' in it as well as End of Time (or something like that). Forty bucks, about as much as an entire season.

Is there any way they could've mentioned them a bit more obviously? Also, I appreciate a mystery, but not being gouged for something that should've been in either the Series 4 or 5 boxes.

I suppose I'll have to fill my evenings with (sigh) Skyrim while I wait for April 5th.
advantage of downloading it, they showed up as in between the seasons

Doctor Who Series 4.5 -9/10

Aside from being ambushed by this after I got through Series 4, it was still pretty fun and worth the money. I'm probably alone in thinking that "Waters of Mars" was the best episode of this specials box, but oh well.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
The tenth doctor was nearly as close to becoming the bad guy as the sixth doctor got.

If you haven't already and don't mind sci-fi, the newer Doctor Who seasons aren't bad at all if you want to rent or buy. Beats having to piecemeal it out of a patchwork of missing classic series episodes.
I'm not really into doctor who unfortunately.

Unfortunately is the word. Pity, because there's a TON of episodes.

Matt Smith? Just got through his first episode. I thought he did a decent job, but I've still got two seasons to get through.

He gets more annoying, and the episodes seem a bit hit and miss, some good, some not so.

I wonder if people will be nostalgic for him after the 12th doctor appears? What's your favorite from the 10th? Mine was The Girl in the Fireplace, believe it or not.

Like I say I don't really watch them that much, probably seen most of the recent ones, but can't recall them that well.

The Borgias is okay. It's no Tudors though. The acting isn't great but it is still watchable.

After the Borgias showtime should do the Habsburgs.

Really enjoyed this show. The casting for the main character, Frank could have been better. It's too unbelievable that Steve Van Zandt would get with that smoking Norwegian.

Otherwise it was funny.

I thought Borgias acting was good enough. Some of the actors steal the show, though.

Doctor Who Series 5 -8.5/10

I wasn't sure what to expect. Though nothing's wrong with being melodramatic in Doctor Who, they milked the 10-11 regeneration almost to death. From my perspective, Matt Smith manages to be his own Doctor, not a mean feat following the popularity of the 10th. His Doctor can be a bit of a jerk at times and in some ways reminds me of the 6th. So, um, on with the rest of Series 6!

Bringing a second companion in is a nice change, though for Spoiler (highlight to read):
having 2,000 years of come-and-go memory as a guardian and Roman soldier, Rory still seems a bit weak.

Come along, Pond.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Did like it when Rory marched into a Cybermen ship's bridge in his Roman getup and tell the Cybermen off. I wish he showed strength more often.

Fuck me, I'm going to have to wait a long time for the Series 7 blu-rays. Guess I'll have to watch the episodes as they come out...

I agree with that. The French king and Michelotto are cool characters.

Maybe it is not so much the acting but some of the scenarios (?) that annoy me. For instance
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Cesare Borgia killing Giovanni Sforza and then making a daring escape with Michelotto. Cesare Borgia attacking the French king's gun powder supply before the battle. Cesare Borgia bedding every woman he comes across. And so on

I came in expecting a historical drama like the Tudors in the way the show was advertised. Instead we have a show about Cesare Borgia being a 16th century super hero.

I also don't like Lucrezia at all. The actress and how the character is written annoys the balls out of me.

Game of Thrones S1E1-S1E3: ?/10

I honestly don't have much of a rating for it yet. I haven't watched the books and the show's hook didn't really take place for me until sometime through episode two. Seems technically well-done, but a bit forgettable at times.

I'd probably rename it "Louis L'Amour's Wild Barbarian Love Ride" from what I've seen of it.
