Just looking at the Rupert Murdoch take-over of BSkyB.. Do you guys (both the UK and the US) have any laws against single people/groups/organisations owning large parts of the media? I know we (Norway) do - the government can intervene if it feels that a purchase interferes with "a broad media service", basically if it feels that a single person/group gets too much power. They stopped (well, told them to give up other ownerships) something similar a couple of years ago, actually.

yeah, we have competition law. not sure how murdoch is getting around it, though... but i mean, it's hardly a surprise. murdoch is basically sitting on a permanent cabinet seat in the uk government... he wines and dines the politicians all the time. they can't hold him to ransom because they know full-well that he controls the mindless tabloids that the majority of unthinking, apathetic, uneducated brits read and rely upon for their political 'information' and 'opinion'. cross murdoch... and the public hate your party. simple.

america sort it the fuck out, please. neo-conservatism and post-9/11 politics is breeding a generation of absolute genocide-candidates.

how about you sort it the fuck out before you tell others to sort it the fuck out
the tea party is on the same 'scale' as the BNP, no? a national political movement, organised well. racist skinhead groups and small hooligan sects aren't the same thing. that's like drawing upon the ku klux klan or black panthers and telling all of 'america' to sort it the fuck out. it's when you have nationally organised, massively popular political parties that you have a problem. there's widespread public condemnation of the BNP for that-- and rightfully so. the BNP are nowhere near as overt as that video above... and that's really saying something. because they're narrowminded bigot scum-of-the-earth, too. i'm not saying it's a uniquely american problem. i'm just saying you shouldn't treat behaviour like that lightly or dismissively... it's extremely worrying.
If that's your impression of the tea party then check the bias of your sources.

I found this article on where Mcdonalds makes most of their money interesting.
https://g.foolcdn.com/img/editorial/MCDgeochart.jpg
Also from 2000 to 2010 U.S. market share shrunk from 37% to 34% while Europes increased from 33% to 40%

Per capita we still consume more though.

I just found this interesting.

Hmmm, that is interesting, because I don't think population changes have a great deal to do with that.

In Europe profit margins on food are generally much higher than the US.

...which goes roughly zero of the way to explaning the sudden drastic change. Unless this is a new phenomenon you're talking about?

For one I was commenting on where McDonalds make their money - the first part of Macbeth's post which you obviously missed.
Its surprising McDs make almost as much in Europe as they do in the US.

On the % change I guess the recession hit the US far harder than it did Europe.

McDonald's price structure is obviously based on global determinants these days, but if you charge 1 euro for every cheeseburger instead of 1 dollar, you've managed a 30 percent increase in revenue without even trying.  (Am I wrong here?)

Plus, McDonald's is one of many, many fast-food options in 'merica.  In Europe, it's a part of a smaller group of available options, and with it's amazing brand-recognition power I'm sure they do quite well for themselves.  I'd bet that Pizza Hut, KFC, and all of the other chains that have invaded overseas markets make more on average at a typical store there than they do at stateside locations, simply due to the novelty factor.

Cost of the 'meat' in a McDs is probably trivial, compared to overheads, labour etc.

You can market a burger for a price like that, 99p/99c/etc. With the stronger currency over here, they make a bigger profit.

I'm fairly certain that most of McDonalds' meat comes from Brazil.

The point I was making is that they get that extra revenue because of the marketing of a "1 dollar/1 Euro/ 1 pound burger". They're not really going to bring the price down to the US price and charge 61 pence or whatever the rate is now for a burger. The price of meat is probably pretty much the same I'd imagine, the logistics price for moving it from South America or wherever to here is probably fuck all fora company like McDonalds.

Still kind of avoiding the point that he was trying to make. Y'all point the finger at us and call us fat when you eat more McDonalds than we do

See? There's his point.

I thought his point was about profits for Mcdonalds across the atlantic. I'm too hungover/lazy to reread anyway.

I can eat like 20 chicken nuggets and a seperate meal and put no weight on. I'm like 130 pounds or something. It's good to be young...
