Well I still have me E8400 @ 3.0ghz. Any idea if that will run it?
bf3 is gonna be a cpu muncher, you'll need 4 cores.
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
Yeah, dual cores had a bit of a hard time with BFBC2. BF3 is likely to be quad core only.
I'm still on the E6600

I have not purchased anything yet, I have just been searching around trying to get the best bang for my buck.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:
I would grab a better GPU personally. Upgrade to something like a HD6870, GTX560Ti or HD6950 depending on what you can afford. If you can't afford it then I would drop down to 4GB of RAM so you can afford a better card.eusgen wrote:

MSI P67A-C43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
sound for BF3?
EDIT:
That's if you are buying it now. If you already have it then it will do fine.
I really like the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814127569 but it is 279.99
I feel like it's not worth the extra $100 when I can get the MSI N460GTX for 179.99

I guess while I was high I pressed quote instead of edit, just roll with it.eusgen wrote:

From my understanding of how things work the 560 is only about 15-20% stronger(faster, whatever) than the N460GTX, but the price is like 40% higher.

ill probably get a new processor like 2 weeks before this comes out.
Upgraded my graphic card, battery and ram not too long ago.

You guys think i should change my hd5870 1gb or is it still good?
keep in mind i'm playing at 2560x1600, so.....

So, is there any reason I should wait to build a new computer? Anything new and amazing coming out in the next few months? I don't really keep up with this stuff unless I'm building so I'm a bit in the dark now. I'm guessing Intel is still at the top of the heap? Who's currently ahead in the GPU market?
What have you got just now?Reciprocity wrote:

good lord. What is a game you play at that resolution and what kind of frame rate do you get?aerodynamic wrote:

All games actually. I get pretty good framerates on almost all games. But i do have to lower some details for like arma and crysis. Aa off.
Like you need AA at 2560.aerodynamic wrote:

My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
Q6600, 4gigs DDR2 and 2x 8800gtx on a 780i mobo. thermaltake toughpower 1000w PSU. all in a cooler master cosmos. It's old but it's been dead reliable for 3+ years. I'm planning on reusing my case, PSU and DVD drives.Camm wrote:

I DO know that BF3 is gonna need a quad core to get a decent framerate, not too up on old Q-series cpus though, although I think that might be enough. You looking to upgrade your pc?Reciprocity wrote:

well, I just ordered new innards for my computer.
-i5 2500k
-COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler
-ASRock P67 Extreme4
-G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB DDR3 1866
-Western Digital Caviar 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s
-2X MSI Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5
This should do pretty well with BF3, Skyrim, DCS A-10c and any other goddamned thing that comes along in the next couple years. I've been an Nvidia/EVGA slut for my last 2.5 builds so this is bit of a departure for me. I'm assuming my Thermaltake Toughpower 1000w will happily handle this new junk. And yes I know SSDs are the greatest thing ever invented but I've spent enough money for one night.

You really don't need 8GB of ram, 4 is more than enough for gaming.Reciprocity wrote:

4gb for $70 or 8gb for $84? Hmm, which one should I have bought?
I wouldn't buy less than 8GB for a decent sandy bridge build, especially the one Reciprocity posted. 4GB is more than enough if you're on a tight budget.
Ahh fair point mateReciprocity wrote:

FFS.
Last night I did a test with BC2 on max settings, considering the say BF3 will be in most respects quite similar. Everything ran nice and smooth, averaging 50-60 fps when it got busy. So I was happy with that.
Today, I barely got 30 in the parts where very little happened. My comp does this with Crysis 2 as well. Every 1 out of 5 times playing that it ran smooth as glass, the rest it was choppy as hell.

Watch your clock speeds with coretemp. Your CPU might be clocking down when it gets too hot.M.O.A.B wrote:

I've got EVGA 460 GT SLI x2 Setup. It runs everything i have now perfectly. What do you guys think the frame rates will be for bf3?
From memory, 2x460s is roughly the same power as a GTX570. They ran the SP demo on a single GTX580 so I'd imagine you'd get a pretty good framerate, even with the settings bumped up above 'medium'.NeXuS wrote:

However, it's difficult to be sure - MP will be a different beast to SP, especially once you add in 64 players on a CQC map. I remember my X1900XT being able to play regular BF2 at max settings at +50FPS, but once I got on a map like Iron Gator my framerate halved. I imagine Karkand with destructible buildings -especially between hotel/uncap - to be a similar experience.
Myself, I'm just going to stick with my i7 950, 6GB RAM and GTX295 system for now and see how it handles BF3 when it's released. Intel's new LGA2011 CPUs are set to be released in Q4 of this year, and I've heard that 7000 series GPUs are set to be released in Q4 2011/Q1 2012. I'll hold off from upgrading until then.
