lol, what international help. I haven't read anything except Australia sending in about 300 people and some aid. Although the media over here have seem to taken the opinion that two confirmed UK deaths in the earthquake now trumps everything else, including the Earthquake itself and the shit going on in LibyaPubic wrote:
Am ok, posting from my phone. House fine, my area is covered in silt. Gfs dad is a cop, he is doing a lot of body detail, has seen horrible stuff. Phone + power on, have plenty of food + bottled water. No net, tap water or sewer. City is FUBAR, resembles a warzone - damaged buildings. soldiers, LAVs, hueys etc. Thanks for international help!! We will rebuild.

In the CBD/four aves, yes - 6.30pm to 6am or somesuch. I was in am aluminium joinery factory by wigram at the time, thought it was ok until i spoke to my gf who was at the time on the 7th storey of a building overlooking cathedral square. Took 4hrs to drive home when its usually 15min in the morning and 35-45min at night. I will make a detailed post when i can get access to a computer with net.
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.
If it makes you feel any better aftershocks are still continually occurring.liquidat0r wrote:

Internet is back on at my place Now all I need is running water! Am preparing a personal account of events, will post later. I don't have a lot of pics as a lot of the damage in my area is to private residences, and I refuse to take pics of strangers houses.
A thread on another forum I frequent. This was started after the September 4 shake, but from page 168 onwards is about the 22 Feb shake:

A radio segment about an ambulance officer's account:

I now have a deep understanding of why war movies often portray soldiers wishing they could have a hot shower, and shit in flush toilets.
edit: Just saw the news, the media are now talking about "Christchurch refugees". Feels weird coming from a city that is producing refugees.
edit2:
You know you're from Christchurch when...
1.You use the term "liquefaction" and "seismic design" in casual conversation.
2.Digging a hole and pooping in your garden is no longer weird.
3.Your mayor describes the city as munted. If he means FUBARed, you agree
4.Weaving through car size potholes on the street is no longer weird
5.Going to Wellington to escape earthquakes makes sense
6.A shower is heaven
7.You have a preference of which kind of silt you'd rather shovel, dry or wet
8.You see tanks driving around town
9.You are always noting what you are under
10.Due to frequent aftershocks during the night, you sleep like a baby--every 10 minutes you wake up and sh*t yourself

Before/After shots of some buildings and streets damaged by the earthquake.
Also got a call from my section leader. I'm on the list for poetentially going down to help in the recovery, (just an administrative thing.) Would be good to get down there and help out though.

Just got a call from Lieutenant Somethingorother. Looks like I'll be going to Christchurch. Never thought my first military deployment would be in my own country.

We should change the title to [date] instead of "Another" .. because when I read another I think, yet another.. holy shit.

Every time I see this thread I think it's new, and I'm like "Christ, another one?"
My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
Righty, changed it.

There is a chance I could be going into the cordon soon, into a building which lies within the grand chancellor hotel's "collapse radius"...to retrieve some computer gear.
I saw an TV earlier, the fault which caused this was was a paltry 8km long. The direction of the fault, combined with local geography, soil conditions and proximity of the rupture to the city are what caused so much damage from such a small shake. They were saying it was pretty much a worst case scenario for Christchurch.
A couple of the aftershocks have been listed as having zero depth, which makes me think they're actually centred inside the port hills.
