I'm not comparing SR2 to GTA. I'm just saying that it's funny that the AI doesn't recognize firearms until they're, well, fired. But if you want to compare, other games are able to recognize this (some to an annoying extent). For example, Two Worlds 2 guards will shout you down if you take out any weapon in town. Even if it's a staff and you're just casting a healing spell, they'll get antsy. It's really not that big of a deal in something not meant to be taken seriously, but it is corny.

Anyway, I'm more interested in figuring out what the wolf icons are that have been accumulating above my stars for the past twenty minutes.

e: I'm guessing it's for alert level I'm causing among gangs. What's funny is how they'll fight side by side with the cops.

obviously, they listened to Wormtongue's instructions.  unlike some other guards of a certain golden hall in a certain realm of horse lords.

Their behavior when you go invisible is funny. They know exactly where you are, just not how to swing a weapon at you.

If I remember correctly, GTAIII needed you to conceal your weapons when walking through town, especially close to cops.

I swear, if I had a say in the design of any of these games, I'd at least try and make the law parallel, or give the players an option to enable it. 120+ mph through town? No problem. Police car rear-ends your motorcycle at a stop light? Your fault. And instead of the mindless hit & runs, it'd be a bit more immersive to actually see someone get out of their car, pulling their hair out in panic.

You sure? I remember people screaming and running away when you had everything but the fists selected.

Yeah, I really figured it out as soon as other icons appeared in different areas. At first I thought it was just because I was being a badass lone wolf shooting down choppers and shit.

I remember Mafia, but I was sure it was the same in GTAIII.

I have hard copies of San Andreas, Vice City, and IV on PS3. My main motivation was to play those extra episodes for IV. PS3 just looks like shit compared to PC version and I would drop equal money getting those on the PS3. The first two I'm well aware, was playing a copy of 1 12 years ago on school pc. Besides 12.49 won't even get a lb of gruyere

I really hate steam for doing that. See my quarrel with the Jedi Knight series.
On GTA though, Rockstar released the first 2 for free a few years ago, and while they officially dropped support for them, they are supposed to be patched to run well on modern systems.

Like we said in the other thread Sisco, it's NOT Steam's fault.. They can only upload what software they are given and they do NOT make the games or the patches... It's Rockstar and the old license-holders that are to blame...

No it isn't.

Steam sells games that aren't the complete copies (missing CD music) or that won't work on most new systems without application of third-party solutions. Further, they fail to mention these problems on a number of these games at their store pages. It's like selling shoes online without paying attention to size.

So yes, I'd say because of this, Steam shares more of the blame than the developers/publishers who have mostly discontinued product support on their legacy titles.

Maybe when you buy more games you'll develop an irritation at the Steam roulette.

It is no more Steams fault that the games are missing stuff than it is e.g. Gamestops fault that RAGE didn't work for ATi users on launch..

The blame is 100% on the developers, Steam does put up warnings of compatibility issues if they are allowed to do so...

No. It isn't.

Other than their dirty habit of opening all the boxes and stuffing the discs and/or documents in a drawer to be separated or lost, Gamestop has no control over the potential quality or lack thereof of new A+ (or any grade, for that matter) releases. I wouldn't blame them nor Steam for Rage's initial bugginess.

On the other hand, Steam has ample opportunity to and could very well test old games they release and make a quick note of any glaring omissions or issues (missing music, doesn't work in Windows 7 without following these steps, etc.). If they put a fraction of the effort into making sure one of these discontinued-support legacy titles works (or at least warn you if they can't pack a fix), as they put into marketing and TF2 hats, I'm sure everyone would be a lot happier.

Instead, they're behaving like a pawn shop that can't be assed to turn on an old CRT TV set to see if it actually works before selling it. Not really Toshiba's fault, is it?

True.

Anyway, I can't blame vendors for not supporting legacy software. But I do blame Steam for acting like a back-alley vendor.
