If I wasnt a hypocrite I would dislike Valve for milking people but the amount of money they have extracted from absolute idiots is just too funny. EA/Activison style is mainly from people who dont know any better, Valves is just fucking over spergy idiots who want cosmetic items.
If it wasn't so fucking easy to get any item you want without paying any money anyway I might be a little annoyed.
But it doesn't work like that.

this trading thing seems wholly useless. who the fuck gets spare gifts? who the fuck really even gets given gifts over steam?

games <-> tf2 items trading has been quite a big "business" for quite some time on spuf forums and sourceop for example.Uzique wrote:

people get scammed by sending their items and expecting the scammer to gift a game -> people go cry to steam support -> valve gets fed up -> valve implements universal trading.
while this update is not of significant interest to most people, it's going to save valve's tech support a lot of work. was kind of expected, really.

Naturally, you shall receive a handsome commission.
I gift games very regulary. And as far as I read, this will include the option to trade games for games. Including those spare copies you tend to get when buying packs in sales.Uzique wrote:

1) Get yourself some Steam buddies.Uzique wrote:

2) Give Steam buddies extra giftable copies of games when they're packaged with the game itself.
3) Receive games in return.
4) Profit.
I thought if u already owned a game from a pack it just didnt give it to you.Sisco wrote:

I thought so too. I think it actually has to specify that you get a spare copy.
This. Unfortunately it´s not a general rule. I sure hope they expand on that possibility with this new trade thing.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:
Yeh they vary from pack to pack. I have a couple of spare copies of games from packs. The majority just dont give the extra one though.
If the Id pack had given me spares I would have bought it, as i already own the quake and doom pack, so only need like 6 of the games in that pack.
I do.Uzique wrote:

From 4-packs, from bundles (e.g. Potato Sack, Humble Bundle 3), from (pre-order) bonuses.
Seven of my friends whom I've gifted 14 games.Uzique wrote:

I believe that this is dependent on the respective game's publisher/developer.Sisco wrote:

Because from a business point of view, one free gift equals one less customer.
Or from a business perspective, one free gift equals interest in your other products? I speak from the perspective of an ex-pirate who now owns far more (legit) games than I would've otherwise.
Anyone remember the game AEGIS: Guardian of the Fleet? It clicked into my mind after the DST China thread.
That was a fun sim. They don't make Sims like that anymore

From Dust is due out tomorrow (17 August) for pc.
It looks quite fun. I used to love playing Populus on the Sega Master System II.

I'll try a demo. It looked good, but but I couldn't get far into Spore or Sims 3.

Dues Ex HR, anyone got it? Looks fun....
I got it. Looks fun, too. Have only been able to play half an hour so far. Never played the original. Stealth action is my thing and is pretty fun. Also enjoy exploring and FPS's with RPG elements. Seems to have a nice story, too. Basically this is exactly my cup of tea, hopefully it's yours, too.
