Did anyone else kill the imperial torturer at the beginning?

I did, but reloaded the savegame afterwards. Who knows what I can get out of him later?
I followed the Stormcloak guy into the building/tunnels, so I killed ALL the imperials on my way (in self defence of course)...

(I never even knew there were two options on my first character, I just followed that empire legion guy all the way to his door without noticing the other guy at his door)

You get some bad-ass Heavy Armor for killing that female Legion lieutenant or w/e that says "who cares if he's on the list or not I want to see heads roll"....

LOL, I'm going to have to replay it and follow the Stormcloak guy. I feel a bit more sympathetic towards them after being nearly beheaded by the imperials.

I just went into the keep and figured that was the tutorial.

I shot the bear and the game instantly crashed, but at least it loads fast.

So...I'm guessing you can't block with your weapon and wield a spell in the other? Annoying.

I enjoy stealthy gameplay and archery. Simple choice really.

I like how the elves now have a more distinct look and aren't just humans with stretched out fish heads (and a bad complexion in the case of the dark elves)

I decided to try a sneaky mage type character. Seemed like a good choice. Fire resistance seems like it'll come in handy too.

Smithing and enchanting are so awesome; percentage increases are so OP. Starting to regret going half-mage, should have gone pure physical.

I'd advise anyone using heavy armour to forge up some orcish armour as soon as orichalcum becomes available from smithy shops. You can get it really early and it means you can take out mammoths and such without exploiting pathfinding bugs. I'm about to forge a second set for my follower.

Specced for 2H and Heavy Armor.
I've also started putting a lot of points into enchanting and smithing.
I can rape anything in 1-2 hits with a power attack.

The one change I'd like to make is being able to put block on its own key. Since it shares the two primary mouse buttons, not being able to block because I'm dual wielding (two weapons or a weapon and a spell) is a dozen kinds of lame. For being supposedly intuitive, I spent awhile trying to hash it out before I gave in and looked it up.

Also, changing the controls at all will not change which key the menu tooltips tell you to press. So you have to constantly go back to the manual to remember, for example, what "F" is supposed to be (I reassigned it to home). This is an obvious consolism that simply doesn't belong in a PC game where there are keyboards and mice.

Guess it depends on how you approach it. I thought it was really cool how you can mine the ore, smelt it, then work it into armour/weapons and then sharpen/improve them.
Meh, count together all that time used to mine, craft and sharpen it and you could have done a quest where something better (potentially even enchanted) would have dropped anyway with no effort...
It is more of a mine ore while doing other things, then make things when in town next type thing than this giant undertaking you make it out to be. Also not everything is about time vs reward. Besides I have a full set of ("epic" quality) glass armour now and I would not have that without smithing.

edit: And archery isnt useless, I one shot most enemies from steath (3x stealth damage perk, archery random perks and good bow).

I got two characters.

One's a dark elf assassin-y person.

The other's a high elf mage.

Sneaking behind people and cutting their throats is disturbingly fun.

Did the most awesome thing I've done in gaming in a while, I did the finishing move on the guy where you stab him the chest with your sword and then do a quick 360 and slit his throat and the last part made him fall perfectly over the banister behind him, felt soooooo ace

Redguard so I could make a hot black chick.  Too bad Reguards in this game don't actually sound black like they did in the previous two games though

I was already an Orc male in Morrowind and Oblivion so I wanted to try something else, plus I hate the way the new Orcs look.

How do you do that?  I haven't figured out any ways to get a stealth kill animation, do you have to have a weapon that's already powerful enough to kill in one hit?

Yes, I love that about archery now, it's actually useful for something other than target practice on mud crabs, as long as you keep your bow up to date.  Still using iron arrows until they stop becoming so common.

Smithing does kind of cheapen the armour progression a bit, now I have done it. I mean in Morrowind getting a full set of Daedric or Glass armour was a pretty big task and for Daedric particularly could take basically the entire game because there was only a certain number of pieces obtainable.

Now in Skyrim I am level 29 with full glass everything without even leaving town.

Everything that is easier to acquire such as money and good weapons/armor is proof that this game has been more catered toward a casual audience like all the other games on the market, this is the BF3 of the Elder Scrolls series: Prettier graphics, easier gameplay

One annoying thing about trainers is, unless I'm mistaken, you gotta take advantage of the +5 every level or you miss the opportunity. Unless I didn't read it right...

Nord - Skyrim native, changed the default character's haircolor to dark brown...

I considered elves but bow and arrow are too weak to be a main weapon and elves look like crap in TES...

Besides, 50% frost resist in a game where frost is everywhere has to be worth it, no?

Yeah I hate how they kept that system from Oblivion, it was OK in Oblivion since you could stop leveling up by not sleeping, but in Skyrim you keep leveling up in the background, so if you earn some cash to train before leveling up you will likely end up leveling multiple times when you finally pay for the training...

Yeah, you  need to be able to kill them in one hit, afaik. However, my sneak attacks do x30 damage, so that's not too hard.

The target also has to be standing still, and I think you need to hold the attack button in to do the throat cut.
..though I still sometimes just do a regular hit. (Still kills them in one hit, just doesn't actually cut their throat)

TBH, leveling in stuff on your own isn't too difficult, but trainers are simply icing on the cake of non-grindage. You should earn five trains per level and not lose them when you advance to the next.
