Hasn't it allways been [Minecraft]?
Nope

First it was "Minecraft"

then it was "Minecraft - Official Thread" or "Discussion Thread" or something

never had square brackets before.
It's been [Minecraft] on my bf2s for a looooong time

I would never put square brackets around it, or request to have square brackets around it.

This is unnewbies doing.

It's chuy's ancient rule and, to be honest, it does help me spot titles more easily. CBA figuring out why it makes people butthurt.

And yeah, it changed, but long ago. I think I took off 'official discussion' when somebody complained about that.

I don't see how "[Minecraft]" is any less confusing than "Minecraft"

but whatever.

Alone, it honestly isn't. But in a page full of crap, brackets can draw the eye. Especially so when people opt for the ubiquitous 'official thread' or some such title qualifier. I understand why the policy is there and for the most part, people use it properly without interference.

If it means so much, just go ahead and call it Minecraft sans brackets. It's not the end of the world.

Oh, go read some classical literature.

There's really no escaping from complaints. Either you're not 'doing your job' or you overmod. There is no happy medium, with some.

e: I wouldn't mind getting Joe's pay on the side, though.

On topic, if Notch is going to keep giving me more coal than I could possibly mine out of a single massive tunnel network in a year, I won't mind if torches gutter out. I just went through two double-boxes of steel picks and haven't even made a dent in the resource.

i love the fact you use the knowledge that i read "classical literature" as some form of weird insult...

whilst you spend your days fucking adding square-brackets to thread titles, being anally retentive and feeling self important

and then, just because that isn't hilarious enough, giving some pseudo-scientific explanation for your title-formatting neurosis... rofl

Why all the hate with the [brackets]? For one it's in the rules:
Please preface each topic with the game title, eg: [counterstrike]
and it means conformity on the board and it makes it easier to search for a specific topic, by including the [brackets] in the search field.

What's more annoying than a change in thread title is the half a page of OT whining about the change.

I'm sorry, but with your prickly and often abusive stance, you really have no place calling anyone anally retentive and self-important. Anything else you wish to deconstruct with your piercing wit?

it's clear that the intention of the rules is to clearly distinguish one thread from another by game...

when there is only one minecraft thread, why do you need brackets?

the purpose of the square-bracket rule is clearly to clear up ambiguities... ambiguities that don't exist here.

e.g. appropriate use: [CS:S] What's your Favourite Weapon? ... [Black Ops] Balance Discussion

when the thread is just called 'Minecraft', and is a general discussion, the further formatting is just anal and a bit pointless

The square brackets make it appear more squarey, which fits with the cubic theme of Digbuild.

I'm definitely making a backup of this savegame. These tunnels are so long that I can't even see the lava in the distance that I know perfectly well is there, and have more than once fallen into some giant hole while running around placing torches. Always a rush dirt-hopping away from skeletons and creepers. Trick is to keep water buckets with you to flush mobs away while you put up the lights.

If anyone wants to try their luck making sense of any of these tunnels, be my guest. I can hardly find a steel pocket without clearing out an entire tunnel of it, and the walls (west mines) are practically made of coal.

That would hold true if the topic name was "[Minecraft] - Something"

But instead it's just "Minecraft" therefore, not a preface.

But not all threads titles here use or need a game title. Therefore, keeping brackets on the game titles regardless of extraneous information preserves the topic naming hierarchy.

Is anyone using any special mining techniques to find diamond? I saw a "new" system on Reddit, but I can't find it again.

This is the only "non-hax" way to do it
