Nah, it seems to be just don't do the stupid thing of going outside at night/dawn... at east until you craft armor and better weapons.
Also, the exploding dudes and spiders don't burn up in the sunlight.
Spiders are easy (see previous posts) and the exploding dudes can be a bit of a pain... the trick is (lure them away from your home first) to hit them and run away, hit them and run away, hit them and run away....

Cactuses are also very useful!
They hurt, and eventually kill, everyone (including yourself) when touched, and greatly slow down the AI enemies if you lure them into and hide behind a fence of cactuses.

They need to be planted on sandy soil though, so make sure to grab some at a beach.
