I posted this in the Discord chat a couple days back, but here's me in my family's home town of Furnas, Sao Miguel, Azores a few months ago. If I had the money, I'd retire to a small cottage in the hills and eat tuna steaks and french fries until my arthritic hands can't pay the 10 euro bill.

Citizen and everything. Funny when the voting cards get mailed to me. All I do is look up which party among the 20 or so choices isn't taking away proxy voting for citizens living abroad and vote for them. It comes around every other election cycle. Most Portuguese Canadians I know vote the same way, and there's a whole lot of us.

My family left Sao Miguel because of the job situation, and after the Estado Novo fucked the islands, going west was a better choice than east. Lots of Azoreans thought the same way, because there's almost as many in southern Ontario as there are left in the islands.

You guys think I am joking. I am dead serious and the majority of the world agrees with me about removing Islam from their societies. India and China are already doing it. The western world needs to do it next. Did you ever notice how few terrorist attacks committed by Muslims took place in the Catholic countries of Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Poland? It's the Protestant and secular countries with terrorism problems.

Now I am not saying we should put people in camps like the Chinese are allegedly doing, the evidence isn't clear anyway, but we should just encourage Muslims here to change their names, visit churches and close the Mosque.

Ok, I'll bite. Terrorism is a form of defiance from a position of weakness. At what point in the last 1000 years has the Catholic church been operating from a position of weakness? Why would they need terrorism when they can leverage structural advantages established over hundreds of years?

the IRA bombed the UK for half a century, killing lots of innocent bystanders. they almost assassinated the prime minister. they mutilated several MPs and their families. they killed a close relative of the queen and a senior naval commander/aristocrat.

catholics drove around northern ireland, ducking into pubs to summarily execute people, or 'disappearing' mother's of eight who were thought to have talked to the wrong people.

it's all conveniently forgotten about by the laity, of course.

the church doesn't have any position of power. the people it appeals to are famine-wrecked irish farmstead holders, peasants in dusty villages in the mezzogiorno, and superstitious polacks who have successively replaced the feudal yoke with the soviet yoke with the church yoke.
