I wanted to ask how I can view my frames per second in BFBC2 and what my video settings and or tweaks should be ?

I want to have decent graphics but also decent frame rates.

I have been playing since march 16th on medium settings but I am not using my native screen resolution which is 1680x1050,
I have been using 1024x768 and i have not made any "tweaks" I seem to be able to play just fine but I want to be sure i am getting the best out of my system.

PC specs are in my signature

I also wanted to ask what the difference is between HIFI (default) sound and WAR TAPES.
I have played you tube videos that are supposed to show the difference but I can not tell by the videos.

Thank you for any advice.

War tapes sounds awesome inside of buildings but I don't notice as much of a difference outside. No reason to not use it imo. A program like Fraps will let you see the frame rate.

Download and install FRAPS. It shows your fps and I find it much better for taking screenshots with than hitting "print screen", alt+tab and opening up paint to save your screenies...

There's a thread stickied above this one and it has a whole bunch of tweaks, as the thread title suggests. There's also the forum search function...

One of the easiest and best ways to boost fps is to navigate to your mydocuments/bfbc2 directory, open the settings.ini file and change the value of "Bloom=true" to "Bloom=false". You should get an extra 20 fps and it makes almost no graphical difference - if anything it helps you see things better.

Wartapes uses up more system resources and adds combat sounds that aren't actually in game (or so I have read). So disabling it again will get better performance and help you out because the sounds you hear are ONLY combat sounds from other players.

I saw the thread above with all the tweaks but how do i know which ones are best to use with my system ?

i also do not want to mess anything up because i am quite a decent player with what I had everything set on so i am not sure i should change anything.

what exactly is "BLOOM" ?

I have heard that having bloom enabled is best if your system can handle it and  even heard that "bloom" is awesome

also what is "HSAO" ?

what do YOU guys think my settings and tweaks should be if any ?

You know your system, try stuff and if it doesn't work change it back. That's how everyone else does it.
Just backup your files first and you'll be fine.

I don't know what bloom or HSAO is. Have you tried using Google?

I haven't noticed any major differences with bloom on, other than my fps drop from 50-70 on high down to about 35-45.

You're asking what's the best way to get performance on your system. If you want the game to look awesome, you'll have to sacrifice fps and overall performance, or fork out some $$$ and buy better hardware. With your current rig running at your monitor's native resolution you'd be best running the game on low for maximum fps. Try it on medium first to see how you go, and adjust from there.

Just remember you're after hardware performance tweaks. Mouse fixes etc. are gameplay tweaks.

Try these from this link:

Decent FPS boost:

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Change "renderaheadlimit" to 0 instead of 2
- This changes the amount of frames pre-rendered by your CPU for your GPU

Bigger FPS boost:

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Change "HSAO=true" to false (also settable in the in-game "advanced" graphics settings)

Other settings.ini changes that you can try:
- Overgrowth="medium" - This is for trees and the such.
- Undergrowth=”medium” – This is for grass and bushes.
- Water=”medium” - Map has alot of water? Drop the quality for fps gains.
- MSAA=”2? - This is Anti-aliasing. Lower value = higher FPS but lower quality. (jaggies)
- Shadows=”medium”- You can also set this to low to improve performance
- Textures=”medium”- Setting this to low can improve FPS at the cost of visual eye candy.
- Aniso=2 - Set this to 0 to disable Anisotropic filtering.

To run DX9 for improved performance (this also stops random crashes for some people):

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Add "DxVersion=9" to the list (without quotation)
- Alternatively, if you want to use DX10 or 11 change the value to 10 or 11.

In short, download and install fraps, run the game in your monitor's native resolution and check your fps. If it's 40 or below I'd highly recommend taking off the bloom. If it's pulling 50-60+ then you should be fine to play the game. If it locks up or becomes jerky in intense gameplay you might want to try some of those other tweaks.

Try changing your Fov value to 70-75, it'll make general gameplay better.
If you want to boost your fps, changing bloom to false gives you a lot more. I still can't tell the difference with it on or off other than a noticeable performance increase. People say turning it off increases visibility, especially on snow maps.
