Consoles were the casual cheap gaming platform for having a laugh with friends. They were completely independent from PCs, and that's what made them good.

Now that they're merging with PCs, both sides are getting shafted.

I agree with miggle. Modern consoles are (nearly all the time) useless if you have friends round.

Back in my flat, the 360 usually got ignored completely for the Gamecube.

I'd forgotten just how annoying fanboys are. I've not really dealt with any for a few years, but there was just a piece on Kotaku about Valve hiring some PS3 devs, and I decided to follow the link through to the source, which was a website called 'Playstation Lifestyle'

Here are a few of the comments:

"I feel sorry for those guys working for Jabba the Hutt (Gabe Newell). Doesn´t meter to me if they have some Dogs on the house now. I want to hear from the horse mouth that he is sorry for the things he said about the PS3, not some Valve PR Bufallo diarrhea."

"Just another example of a company that put out a lousy port for PS3 owners, which could have been forgiven, but then the big a-hole in charge had to open his huge mouth and say a load of crap about the PS3, which isn’t forgivable."

I just don't know what to say. I sure am glad i'm not part of any console specific website if thats the level of intellect on display in each one, that's all I can say.

Yeah, exactly. I remember having tons more fun playing TMNT2 on the NES, Streets of Rage 2 on the Sega and Street Fighter 2 on the SNES with friends than enduring the social shitstorm of Quake deathmatch. Voice chat and gaming groups have improved things a bit, but there's still a huge number of shit talkers.

Indeed, but I say the same about FPS; I prefer the laid-back style of consoles. From what I've experienced, FPS on a PC is more intense than on an XBox. You know - hunched over your keyboard, eyes fixed on the screen, right arm at the ready, finger ready to click at any instant, fingers tensed at WASD.. I guess it comes down to how you like to game, I prefer the chilled enviornment of consoles
