I've been using the same case now for 7 years. I have been meaning to get a new one, but this one does the job fine and I'm finding it hard to justify buying a new one.

I'm curious to see how many people are still using really old cases and what they are.

I have a Cooler Master ATCS-710-GX1 still going strong.

What about the rest of you?

Well this PC itself is about 5 years old. If it wasn't a micro ATX case then I'd keep it when the inevitable total upgrade comes along. Don't see the big deal with cases. As long as they hold shit together then it does the job.

I had an Antec Sonata up until a few months ago. Had it for *roughly* 5 years, not exactly sure how long I had it.

I have upgraded to a newer Antec case, it:

- is quieter
- has better airflow
- has a better dust filter
- has more fans
- has a better "door" on the front
- came with e-SATA as well as the standard front USB/etc ports
- keeps my PC cool
- doesn't have massive annoying blue LEDs on the front
- is better designed - easier to change components inside

So basically, it was worth buying a new case.

Quietness is the only reason I would want to replace mine. But that's a pretty good reason in itself.....

The Antec Sonata wasn't exactly a premium case to start with, I suspect most of the improvements you've seen have been from getting a better case this time round. What have you replaced it with?

Yep, I've got an Antec Sonata Piano Black, it's ages (maybe 5 years) old and does the job. It's still quiet enough (compared to what's on the market) and it still looks pretty up to date, the monolith.

I have an Antec Sonata III and I pretty much cannot hear it at all.

So much quieter than my old Antec Sonata (probably the same one as DonFck just mentioned).

Changed my case roughly a year ago, the old case was nearly 5 years old ... got me a new Antec 1200 that almost gets rid of all possible dust and it looks sweet

2 years shortly, was the cheapest decent looking case in the store when i got the computer. I would need a new one though, because this is too small to work with. There's about 2mm room between my CPU cooler and PSU, plus the GPU 6-pin power connector can barely fit in because of the hard drives...

Oh and I keep the side panel open to get better airflow (had sli 8800GT with Accelero S1's. Doesn't really work in a case that doesn't have that impressive airflow) And because it would barely fit with this CPU cooler.

Mine is 4 or so I think?  Not really sure exactly when I got it...

Antec 900 though, its decent I just wish it didnt have those stupid blue lights and better dust filters.  Plus with my shitty cable management its extremely difficult to get new hard drives in

I just recently upgraded from a 12-year-old case to a 6-year-old case

Feels good man.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I have some unknown generic case we got in 2002. Still runs well, have upgraded the innards a few times.
Also have one from 1998 (!) but I don't really use that comp anymore. 500 mHz is a bit slow.

I'll see your case and raise you a whole PC. That's right, I've had this POS for 7 years now.

Now it looks like this:

Only reason i've never swapped, is because 1, not many people see it, and 2.. The hard drives are faced outwards....

If i was to get a new case i'd get this one:

I'm using a old P3 case I had lying around. Had my parts lying on the desk for more than year, had to start it with a screw driver. Gangster style yo.
