it's amazing how toxic and edgy the internet was before social media.
i still prefer it. the toxicity was harmless fun and mostly people acting in characters. a sort of extended RPG or MUD experience, bleeding over from IRC.
social media and the merging of 'IRL' with the web was supposed to make people more accountable for their views and behaviour. what we got, instead, is a generation of far-right fascists, incel terrorists, and conspiracy-pumped housewives. sad!
these 'shocking' threads are quaint in comparison.
