Has anyone tried P90x?

Normally I'd stay away from those sort of things, but I've heard nothing but good things about it, so I'm downlo-...getting it now.

Well, I just saw that and decided to acquire some of it to test it out. I did the ab ripper and the back and biceps one.

First of all I found both of them fairly entertaining to be honest as the guy who presented it wasn't too big of a douche, in fact he seemed a decent enough bloke.

I personally found the ab ripper decent but not too strenous though obviously it'll take a few weeks until I can tell you how effective it was However though it did not leave my abs aching it did make me sweat and I must admit that I certainly could not do some of the excercises properly (e.g. couldn't raise and straighten legs fully in some of them).

NB: my current ab workout (figured that as i have only a single set of dumbells that can take 2x5kg weights (not much I know but my arms are just crap so its fine for me at the moment); is:
-30 crunches
-20 crunches
-30 push throughs
-30 leg/ab stretches and lifts (all in one set of movements, unsure of the proper name)
-20 bicycle crunches

The back and biceps one however I found very good for me though as I said that may be as my biceps are utter crap. It is a fair bit more fiddly when you have no decent pull up bar just a low lying bean in an adjacent attic that is only about 4 foot off the ground and you can only get a palms outward grip on it. Just got to think that it is better than nothing at least.

I gave up about half way through the back and biceps work out as its actually 02:12 hours here and I realised its probably not a good idea to be doing them when you only have half the kit and your body is at the least healthy part of its cycle to work out at (low bloody pressure and high blood viscosity early in the morning hence why most people tend to die at about this time in the day).

Anyway, I just thought I would put in an opinion from a person who does not really work out at all though obviously the opinions of people that do will be hugely different.

Will get back tomorow afternoon ish with my thoughts on the cardio workout for P90x.

Much love.

Weirdly though its more my forearms that are feeling enlarged and slightly achy afterwards.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have nowhere that I can do pullups on, but I was thinking of maybe getting one of those resistance bands instead.

Also, should I work out if I'm sick? Nothing major, just a minor cold.

If your just ill like that then sure, work out by all means. Just don't go overboard and do anything that could compromise your bodies ability to fight the cold off.

If you are going to work out whilst you are a little unwell, make sure you are thoroughly hydrated and don't push it, even tho you feel pretty ok your body is still fighting hard against the infection and wearing yourself out won't be any help to the recovery of your system.

I'll post my and workout when I get home.

Just started my six weeks of 5x5 workouts (the best, in my opinion) and it's feeling great so far... Destroyed my shoulders yesterday. Today it's arms and part legs, part shoulders (currently not allowed to do squats due to posture problems because of the soles of my feet).

Just bought a professional close and wide grip Ez bar (the york one only really allowed wide ones and was the one that fucked my arm in the first place.) and I also bought the JML Iron Bar to see how it fares up.

Started major diet as well, with my protein intake up by a lot and taking in no carbs except after workouts. Also considering starting making shakes with cottage cheese and berries and the sort.

Also, final verdict on the Gaspari MyoFusion protein: 10/10
Taste is fucking ridiculous and gains have been noted all around.

Seriously, get it... It's incredible.

Even without any milk (just water) the stuff tastes delicious. I hate it when shakes are too "watery" but this seems to keep its consistency even with just water (I used to do full milk, then half water/half milk and now all water).

The chocolate flavour is just fantastic.

Good progression imo

Recently added dead-lifts with shrugs at the "top" so to speak. Definitely one of my favorite exercises, just feels great after doing a couple sets.

Alright, I have a question about losing fat/gaining muscle.

I've been browsing around those bodybuilding.com forums for maybe a week or so now, reading up on stuff but taking everything with a grain of salt knowing that the goals of most members there and my goals are different.

So everyone on there advocates a strict bulking/cutting system in which you are either putting on muscle mass (and not worrying so much about additional fat gains) or you have reached your muscle mass goal and are focusing strictly on losing weight and shedding the fat that you gained during the bulking phase.

I have a bit of fat on my stomach, not enough to make it really stick out, but enough that you can't see much definition in my abs, which I want to change. However, I am not nearly at the stage where I want to be or should be "cutting." Is it really all that unrealistic to build muscle and lose fat at the same time?

No, not at all.

I've noticed a big increase in muscle since I've started working out, and I've also lost fat with cardio (running) at the same time..

It depends on how large the gains are that you are after, if you were after large gains such as Sonder and Zimmer then they simply have to load their bodies up with as much protein and carbohydrates as they can (granted zimmer is on a weird diet now that I think has virtually no carbs to cut down fat). They need all that energy and protein to maximise their gains. However in such a diet and excercise regime, even though they do cardio they will still put on some fat due to the spare energy their bodies are taking in. They would get to the stage they want then cut down the amount they eat / lift to trim down the fat levels so they go through building / shedding phases.

Normal people like us however who just want to increase fitness and gain a relatively small muscle mass in the time (compared to hardcore lifters) can if they are careful get the balance right between some muscle gains (though not as high as is possible) and cutting down fat through diet and excercise.

The best ways to cut down fat are simply to get a healthy diet and then do things like high intensity interval training e.g. 30 second sprint, 30 second walk or some such for as many reps as you can before your body feels like its about to die. That is hard work but has amazing gains for fat reduction.

Hope it helps.

my get-fit programme at the moment basically involves a central tenet of 'no drugs' and a core regime involving lots of food, drink and not a lot of evil chemicals or mind-altering substances. hopefully in 3 months i'll be capable of maintaining a normal pulse with my own personal liberty. i'll work on the 6 pack and 1000kg benchpressing after that. for now this IPA needs a neckin'...

Hey guys, need some advice.
Feels sorta like my current workout has sorta stagnated. Right now I'm doing:

Bench: 4X10
Military Press: 3X10
Curls: 3X10
Low Row: 4X10
Lat Pull: 3X10
Squat: 3X10
Flys: 3x10
Dead lifts/ Shrugs: 3X10
Situps: 5X15
Triceps: 3X10
Couple different leg machines that I don't know the names off

And then I do that 3 times a week on non consecutive days. No Supplements, and then no particular diet, just trying to eat healthy.

I have lost 30 pounds in the last four months doing this, so in that aspect its good, but sorta seems like time for something more particular.  Any Advice?

lower the reps, add more weight, shock those muscles. your muscles will get conditioned if you are too repetitive.

maybe throw in some circuits and really push yourself.

also, on your three visits, break up those exercises, split up the muscle groups and train hard.
