Ok, I think that's bound to happen to an extent.  When the party is at camp, you have to counter those negative points by talking to her and getting her to open up about her past, etc.  But when talking to her, you will get a lot more approval if you come off as sort of a prick...a concerned prick.  You have to balance out the two to keep her in your party if you plan on playing through quests like a saint.

And I think that being somewhat in the negative approval range will be fine, she will just moan and groan about it.  At some point, however, an NPC will disband.  I'm sure you can Wiki the specifics.

E: Also, being at highest approval might unlock abilities and/or quests...or am I confusing this with Mass Effect 2? (lol)

I never had a problem with them being negative approval as I was going through the game. The worst one I had was Sten, who I had to fight once but then he fell in line. Between gifts and conversation for the rest of them, they all pretty much liked me.

ok so I will slap her around a bit, then watch my approval rating go up.

Morrigan (and Allistair) will not leave you if their approval ratings drop. They are also the only 2 companions you will end up without having to do the right dialogue options.

yea, there are companion quests for all the companions... And a higher approval will give the companions bonuses in their main stat.

Well, technically, Morrigan would leave if negative enough, but will return.
