My microphone doesn't work ingame. It did before, but I broke it and got a new one which doesn't (it's the same one, mind you). Neither voiceIP nor teamspeak will work if I'm in the game. If I minimize, it will work, but not while the game is up.

I tried updating my sound card drivers, and well that totally screwed it up and I had to restore to a day ago to fix that little problem.

Sound card is a Turtle Beach - Santa Cruz card. I've read that BF2 doesn't like it when you use the mic2 slot or something, but mine has only 1 mic slot.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Did you figure anything out?

I'm having the same problem. I went and purchased a decent logitech headphone with mic a few weeks back. It was working great... Then one day it was not! I am using the sound card the is built on the motherboard which is Realtek ALC850...

well, if its a hardware compatibility issue, no one is gonna be able to help u except my audigy, probably..

but
as u are using a sound card, separate from your motherboard sound [most new mobo's have onboard sound], it may be worth checking which sound hardware your system is working.  maybe u have a conflict somewhere.

I have an ASUS A8N SLI... I'm using the onboard sound... Sorry for the confusion...

The original post makes mention of "BF2 doesn't like it when you use the mic2 slot or something"... What is that about? On my case, an Antec P180, I have two plugs on the front, one for my headphones, and one for the mic... I am not using the plugs that are directly on the motherboard... Is that what he is talking about?

If I go into WindowsXP, and run the microphone setup, the microphone work just fine. But when I go into BF2, nothing...

I guess I will have to do a little more research...

lol, u have the same case and board as me. [how sweet is the p180 ]

its likely that a soundcard issue, as the card is a tad obscure.  most developers focus on creative/audigy cards, becasue to be fair, its all most people use.

.............RANDOM shot in the dark here.....
have u disabled VoIP in the BF2 options? have u muted the mic or the voice volume option in the games menu options?

The p180 is definitely sweet! The only issue I have with it is that sometimes the little blue power light on the front goes out... Then it turns back on, then off, then on, then off for hours, then back on... I have not figured that out... It is no big deal though...

As for the sound... I may just go and get a simple creative card for $30... That way I can turn on hardware sound support and unload some of the processing of sound off the cpu... I just know that is use to work and worked just fine... strange that it all of a sudden when away...

I have tried disabling VoIP a couple times, quit out of BF2 and then turned it back on... nothing different... I too was wondering about the mute switch, but everything works under Windows... I will have to check the voice volume when I get home... I pretty sure that I have that option turned all the way up...

Battlefield 2 is very picky about microphones, and will only use a microphone that is plugged directly into your sound card. My old USB microphone did not work in game for this reason.

One thing you should make sure of is that your sound input device is set correctly in the control panel.
To do this, open the sounds and audio devices panel in the control panel, and go to to the audio tab. There are two fields, sound playback and sound recording. Make sure the sound recording is set to whatever your microphone is plugged in to.

I do not know if battlefield 2 will accept sound input from the motherboard sound ports, but my gut says no. You might be better off getting a dedicated sound card.
