Unsupported Graphics Card

Is there anyway to get around a video card that is not supposed but should run the game?
My friend just bought a laptop with some generic card (I think) which is a dedicated 128mb card. However, every time he runs the game the splash screen shows up and then he gets a black screen followed by a kick to the desktop. EA customer support told him that his card is not supported, hence the problem. All other system specs seem to be in order, so is there anyway to 'force' the game to run on a unsupported vid card?

No, because the card most likely doesn't support the needed shaders (this is the same problem as the GeForce 4 has). There are drivers that basically get around it, but they are considered hacks by most and the graphics results are so bad that I'd rather play pong (screenshots here).

if its old, then no... but the new cards that were released after the game arnt supported, but works

The laptop was only purchased a few weeks ago I believe.
What did you mean by 'but works'?
He does have a desktop for the game, I think he just wants to be able to play it when hes not at home. In lectures, libraries when you are supposed to be doing homework...that sort of thing.
I tried the links in the article you gave me viper, and none of them work. Nonetheless, its a great place to start and I'll forward the article to him.

can u tell us what grapics card? it will help a lot, and if it says "intel graphics extreme" it will not work

It's called 'Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 915'...plus a few more things.
Dumbass bought an Intel card. Should just shoot him for his stupidity.

LOL! intel uses intergrated, not even a proper vid card, so no bf2 for ur friend lol

when i mean un-supported vid card i mean like the Geforce 7 series, which run bf2 at the highest settings possible (all high, 8X AA, 16X AF) running avg 30 fps, but the human eye can only detect up to 20 fps

Yep your mate is totally screwed. Most new games that come out use something called HW/T&L (Hardware/Transform and Lighting). This means that instead of software or onboard graphics doing all the work rendering the graphics, its wholly done by the video card GPU (so onboard video RAM MEANS ZIP). So no dedicated GPU, no HW/T&L games for you.
Look on the net for more data.
