I'd run Vista on it if it for some odd reason wouldn't be broken. MS broke the UI even more in 7 than they did in Vista.
I don't know. I haven't bothered installing them yet..Sup wrote:
So how is the TRIM support with your SSDs? I need to update my firmware for the SSD to support itBertster7 wrote:

No TRIM currently available for them in RAID - which is what I'll be using.

Gigabyte readies GA-P55A-UD4 board with SATA 6.0 Gbps, USB 3.0
This is what I was waiting for. Now all we need is USB 3.0 compatible devices.
Taiwanese manufacturer Gigabyte is hard at work on an updated version of the GA-P55-UD4 P55-powered motherboard which will feature both SATA 6.0 Gbps and USB 3.0 ports. Named GA-P55A-UD4, the tweaked board has support for LGA 1156 Core i5/i7 processors, a 12+2 phase power design (the P55-UD4 has 8+2), four DDR3 memory slots, two PCI-Express x16 slots for SLI or CrossFireX setups, plus two SATA 6.0 Gbps ports 'powered' by a Marvell chip, and two USB 3.0 connectors enabled by a NEC chip.
Other than those mentioned, Gigabyte's product has six SATA 3.0 Gbps and two eSATA ports, 7.1 channel audio, a FireWire connector, Gigabit Ethernet and Dual BIOS.
The GA-P55A-UD4 will become available in November or December and is set to co-exist with the non-A model as it will be priced higher. How much higher, that's yet to be confirmed.

hmm if I ever need SATA 6Gb/s (not likely in next few years), I'll grab myself one PCI-E SATA-6Gb/s card.

i'd buy that board. i'm liking the Eyefinity, my next gpu will support it, or something like it..Sup wrote:

i'm still not liking the rated life for todays SSD's though.
i guess i'm just saying i'm not ready to upgrade yet . . . :p
They mostly come with 5 year warranties...burnzz wrote:

And in 3 years we'll already have far superior capacity and performance to anything sold today. So no worries.

so Bert, if i'm running a Q6600, 8800gt, and want multi monitor support do i
upgrade now and call it Christmas or
upgrade this spring and call it my birthday present to me?

8800GT is more than enough to handle two monitors.
Why do you need to upgrade?burnzz wrote:

Depends what he is going to do with the PC.Finray wrote:

Are you going to game on multiple monitors Burnzz?

Finray, ur not paying attention~ Eyefinity. if i drop a 5870 into my machine, i'm buying another monitor.Finray wrote:

i'm buying another monitor only if i go with Eyefinity or something.
Eyefinity would move me into upgrading. the motherboard Sup posted might move me into upgrading.
SSD's - i'm not sold on them yet, but they would be part of a new build.
but you*re right - it handles two monitors. just not the same way a new card would . . .
I have to say I'm loving my SSDs.burnzz wrote:

What's wrong with the way it handles mulitple monitors? What resolutions are you running at?
My old 8800GTS handles dual monitors at fairly high resolutions very, very easily. What are you doing on multiple monitors that requires so much power from the GPU?
What sort did you go for?.Sup wrote:
Me too. Best upgrade I ever made (besides audio upgrades)Bertster7 wrote:

Yeah what I'm saying is it'll handle an OS on both monitors no problem, gaming on both would be a bit harder, though pointless due to the lines between each monitor.burnzz wrote:

Sidenote: why you*re?
ok, SSD ftw, i geddit. what i'm sayin about GPU is i'm intrigued by Eyefinity and the potential to have monitors being both fully independent and seemless @ the same time. i do 'do' anything that needs triple monitor support, i just want it. . . .
Was looking into the matx version of this board, Now i think I may get this:.Sup wrote:

@burnzz: you have the exact same set up as me and a very similar predicament.
I really want a 16:10 24" monitor before they go out completely but to do this i'd new a new gpu (possibly ati for eyefinity) to run the 24 + 2 22's as i don't really trust my 8800gt to do the job with newish games. But then it becomes quite an expensive upgrade

Well guys, I've started modding my case. I'm now owned by a headache from the spray paint.
I got the side panel installed. Crap pictures, but ah well.
Black splodge thing is water.
Spraying all of this.
Got this sprayed too, the primer is grey but I ran out of primer and the shops are closed now so I gotta wait till 2morro to get more.
2 bits primed.
And my current computer abode.

Looking for a new sound card. I don't really have a budget in mind, but I'd like to see what I can get for in the $50 range, the $100 range and the $200 range, US stores.
Mostly for music/movies and some gaming.
Thanks.
