So I should just throw my Netbook in a garbage can? Its like" My netbook is slow, what should I do" and then a smartass replies "get a desktop PC"CammRobb wrote:

5850 just arrived.. the box is the size of a motherboard box... gonna get some drivers and pop it in, see what it can do. Still dont have water cooling block for it though so that sucks a bit.
@Sup: What would you tell someone who asked about the need of an anti-virus/firewall? Inherently, this person wouldn't be very good with computers.
As far as your netbook goes, I hope you've got a software firewall/AV up when it's on a public network.

Reinstalled XP on my best buddy's PC a week ago. He has poor knowledge about PCs and security. I installed Commodo AV/FW for him.Defiance wrote:

And no, I don't have any AV on my netbook. The only public wireless network I use is in a coffee shop. Its a secured public/private line. Been using their line for 3 years no and no problems so far.

It's not their line you should be worried about, it's anyone else on said network who wants to play around with the software vulnerabilities left open without a firewall.
Pentium Dual Core(2.5 ghz) or Athlon II x4(2.6 ghz)???
System w/ Pentium is ~$8 more on newegg(all the same except CPU, mobo, & RAM) Pentium: DDR2, Athlon II: DDR3
edit: I won't be getting it until after 7 is out for sale, but the prices won't be terribly different then I assume...
It's for my mom/sister to use, so no really intense stuff, just looking for the best deal for performance...
Will have a 4670 or something cheap for GFX.
Edit 2: 25/15 internet or 15/5 internet?
-Verizon FiOS, since my mom probably gets a discount for being a Postal Employee

Didn't you get all that comp stuff for you/mum/sister like 2 weeks ago? Are you still trying to decide?nickb64 wrote:

athlon... but buy it already.
We decided to wait until a bit after Windows 7 comes out...IrishGrimReaper wrote:

Probably going to buy in early/mid Nov.(hopefully), unless my mom decides we should wait a little longer or something. Plus, if we get in mid Nov., I can build it all a couple weeks later over Winter Break, since my classes don't leave me with a lot of free time.
Waiting sucks, but I think it was an ok choice to wait, since we can just get 7 without doing the upgrade from Vista
edit: I kind of almost want to wait on the Gaming Rig until the inevitable price war between ATI/Nvidia for DX11 Card(s) gets prices down, but I probably won't, and will most likely pick up a 5870 when the time comes

Can't wait to check out Windows 7 Got that shit on Pre-Order!
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @ 4GHz || 3x2 GB OCZ 1600Mhz DDR3 || 80GB Intel X25-M Gen 2 || KFA2 GTX 480 1536Mb ||| Samsung T220 || Xonar DX 7.1 || AV 40 || P6T Deluxe V2 || Win 7 HP 64 Bit || Lian Li P80
I've got a free upgrade for my laptop as well as a free full version from the MSDNAA. Only problem is I think the licenses expire (for the MSDNAA one) once I'm done College so I'll no longer be able to do updates
Fook, I'd no way of using that MSDNAA thing. So I just pre-order it from UK for like €60, it's only the Home Premium but that's fine for me.

I wanna try Linux out, which is the best one for a shitty 2004 PC
I'd use Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
Fook me, I think they don't offer Win 7 through MSDNAA anymore over here.

Ach, you're not missing much. Just think Vista, that actually works well.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

It'll be nice to not have to use 1GB of RAM at idle.
That's probably the only thing I'm looking forward to in Win7

If you use 1GB RAM idle, you fail. My laptop uses <400MB.ebug9 wrote:

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
I just got a new mobo I'm about to try out BF2 for the first time in about 2 years. P5QL/EPU and a 2.66 quad core, 2Gigs DDR2 800, 10k Raptor, 7800gt. Not the best but it's better than what I'm used to..
Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
get another 2gigs of ram, it is dirt cheapKing_County_Downy wrote:
