OK!

I'm getting a new system and this will be in my machine:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
ATI Radeon X1800XT
MSI K8N NEO4
160 GiG Seagate SATA II
2 GiG Kingston Valueselect RAM
Enermax Liberty 500 W
Chieftec Dragon Midi/BLACK
and lots of fans lol ^^

But my question is.... Will there be a power gain against my P4 3.2 Ghz? Does BF2 "knows/takes advantage" of the DualCore Technology?? OR will it just run with 2.whateva Ghz and fuck up?

This is my atm system an it SUCKS MY ASS in battlefield:

Intel P4 3.2 Ghz
ATI Radeon X800XT
Some kind of Crappy MoBo
also some Crappy RAM's 2x512
Western Digital 160 GiG IDE
"a bit" crappy 400 W Power supply
and......not really things that can be called "Fan" ^^

?_? thx @ j00

it doesnt take advantage of dual cores as far as i am aware of.

nice rig though!

Remember that BF2 is optimized to play on nVidia graphics cards. So I would go nVidia.

I would also recommend the following:
Motherboard: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Memory: Corsair XMS-3500LL Pro   **(optimized specifically for the ASUS A8N mobo!!!)
Storage: 250GB Maxtor Maxline III SATA Hard Disk Drive

thx!

but.....that means i can't play (BF2) with nice performance? Or is P4 just too old to get along with this game?

Because.....amd dualcore is pretty good, you know?

While you may not find any major improvement in using dual-core processors in games like BF2, the benefit overall in the user experience will show when you have several applications open or run softwares that are thread-aware.  You'll definitely enjoy the benefits of dual-core when you start running multitude of apps.

As for the Intel and AMD processors, AMD has a long-standing lead in gaming performance over Intel for quite a while and going with them no matter what model you got will definitely net you better overall performance.

You can not directly compare the Ghz between Intel P4 and AMD 64. The AMD 64 may have a lower Ghz, but it's architecture is far more efficient the the Pentium 4, and outperforms it in almost all applications. About the only thing the P4 is better at is streaming media.

From reading a number of forums, I have heard that there is a bug with using the Dual Cores with BF2, where it will keep disconnecting you. It is fixed by setting the game to work on only one core, although I can't remember how you're supposed to do this. Still it will still outperform the P4 3.2 ghz on only one core.

1st. BF2 does not support Dual-Core

2nd. An AMD chi[p running at 2.4GHZ(which I believe is what each core runs at?!?) is basically a 3.2-3.4GHZ intel proc....You just cant compare AMD with Intel Processors GHZ-wise....Dual-core is definatly the way to go though for better performance, and upgradability(most newer games support Dual-core tech)...

3rd. Dont get naything with the word "Value" in it. Espiscally your RAM. Get good stuff...

4th. Dont get an x1800XT(or w/e it was) For that money, go with a good EVGA/BFG/XFX 7800GT or(if you have the money) a GTX. They kill an x1800 because they have FULL support for SM3 and HDR(wich BF2 doesnt use unfortunatly, but HL2 looks beautiful with it)...

and your current system really isnt that bad. Maybe hol out for a bit until AMD releases the AM2 socket design, and then 939-pins will drop in price like a rock....But your system really sint that bad. A 3.2 GHZ P4 is plenty for BF2....

oh, and try to get that Asus A8N-SLI32 board, its kick ass with dual 16x PCIE lanes....

looks like u got a lot of cash, i agree w/ ppl saying go w/ a8n-sli32, but chose the Deluxe edition coz it runs dual 16X, the normal one runs 2 8x lanes, not true 16X. go w/ the 7800 series vid card since u got the money and yes do hold on till the am2 socket comes out

u got a point. but he might not want to wait that long, if he waits, there will be an m2 version of the some mobo, but w/ ddr2

FYI.....

I have a deluxe... be aware of this MAJOR problem with this board.

If you leave your pc on for extended periods, eg downloading overnight/extended gaming, the northbridge board fan WILL fuck up on you.  it did on mine, and when it did i checked the forums and this happens in a HUGE number of instances with this board.  So much so that Asus have rebranded the DELUXE as PREMIUM. they are exactly the same boards, except that the premium uses a passive cooling system.

Now, be aware, if you have got a delux, chances are you WILL suffer northbridge fan failure. and when u do, let me tell u.. FIX IT ASAP for 2 reasons:

1. it will destroy your mobo due to the chip overheating, ergo, death, and
2. the noise of the fan, once broken, is unbearable.  the fan is poorly designed, it jams, and it grinds as its motor tries to spin it.  this is very loud and will drive u mad.

Asus, are fully aware of this problem, and when i contacted them, they sent me out a replacement fan for the board.  fair and good, u might think, but they sent out a fan.  no instructions etc.  Not really a problem for me, as ive built a few pc's in my time, but for others, this WILL be a major issue.  To replace the fan, u need access to the REAR of your motherboard, so u need to know how to disassemble and reassemble a pc to fix this problem.

I opted for passive cooling, and didnt use their fan that they sent me out, i went for a zalman n/bridge cooling device.

This board is an excellent board, but.. BUY THE PREMIUM version of it.

so if were using 3rd party cooling on northbirdge, there will be no fan problem right?

as long as its decent cooling, and i would attach it before the pc was constructed. saves a lot of time.
.. or buy the premium

this is what i use..

Switch your ram to 400mhz pc 3200 ram bc the type your getting has a slow transfer rate.

lmfao try playing on my p4 2.4ghz, low speed 512 ram and 9800pro

doesn't even realize how lucky you are meh

and underoath, you sounds like you don't even really know what your talking about

don't get anything that has "value" in it?

that's so typical hardware noob's phrase

unless you are doing some complex work, you can't really feel anything different between most of cas 2.5 rams and value 3 rams

and it's very hard to find a game that support 64 bit cpu and did you say most newer games support dual core?

and it's M2 mobo not am2

lol
