are all great suggestions so far.
I'd also recommend Crysis and Crysis: Warhead, but apparently I'm in the minority for liking and enjoying those games.

Both are fantastic time sinks

If you get into it enough, you'll be there for days.

Most people who hate Crysis just couldn't run it when it came out so they wrote it off.mtb0minime wrote:

It's a great game, but it just became cool to hate for some reason.
I thought of suggesting them, but I figured I'd get flamed into oblivion.mtb0minime wrote:

I really enjoyed them, pretty good gameplay. Get them if you can run them HaiBaiDefCon-17 wrote:

I just used xConfig for the original Crysis and some other custom config for Warhead. Hell, I still thought the graphics looked awesome, even with AA off and no bells and whistles.
Call of Juarez Bound in Blood.
Prototype.

Morrowind /thread
Old game, sucky graphics, but still kickass gameplay.

Ooh, y'know one I just remembered that's really awesome, is LEGO Island. Man that game was kick ass!
Also get Wolfenstein 3-d (and even Return to Castle Wolfenstein), as well as Duke Nukem and Doom. I don't care how old they are, I still find them entertaining after all these years.

There's a whole load of single player (or at least have a single player component) PC games that are cool. Here's a few off the top of my mind (be warned, some of these are straight out of the past):
Freelancer ...though fun in the free online servers
Aliens vs Predator 1, 2
Thief 1, 2, 3
Plants vs Zombies
Ghostbusters the Game
Mirror's Edge
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood
WH40K: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade; Dawn of War II
Companions of Xanth (free)
Ground Control I, II
Emperor: Battle for Dune
Elder Scrolls (series)
Warcraft I, II, II-exp, III, III-exp; Starcraft+Brood Wars
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
Battle for Middle Earth I, II, II-exp
Portal
Baldies
Mechwarrior (series)
Magic Carpet I, II
Descent (series)
Duke Nukem 3D
Serious Sam (seroes) ...though really fun in coop mode
Blood
William Shatner's TekWar
Eternam
Entomorph
Nanotank
Advent Rising
Tron 2.0
Ascendancy
Sins of a Solar Empire
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
Dungeon Keeper 2

The original Operation Flashpoint
The graphics look like shit by todays standards, but its one of the best games Ive ever played.

I just got all three Brothers in Arms games off Steam for £12.
I acquired the last one a few months back, and it was awesome. The story seems worth playing, and I'm enjoying them so far.

Empire Total War maybe?
Men of War. Pretty good game and 7.50 USD on steam atm.
Fallout 3 is endless fun. DLC makes it sooo worth while. If you only want to buy one, then get the Broken Steel DLC.
