LOTR: recruit allies to defeat Sauron + destroy ring. Often times, it's the journey, and not the destination, that makes a great story.Spidery_Yoda wrote:

You know the more I think about it the more disappointed I am with the story on the whole, simply because there wasnt one.
The story from beginning to end: You recruit a bunch of team mates then attack a collector base.
I mean sure while I was playing I didn't notice, because the game itself was full to the brim of stories for each character, which was great and extremely well done. But the story on the whole, the continuation of the 'Reapers coming to attack earth' thing was really lacking. It's not a big Sci-Fi epic, it's a collection of short stories.
To put what I mean in perspective:
In the first game you discover the prothean beacon, you learn of a threat, you travel to various planets and slowly discover that it's not just the Geth that are at work, but an ancient race of killer machines who want to stop life from becoming too complex (or just destroy them all, I dunno, you never learn their true motives), you then discover that the citadel and all the mass relays were also built by the Reapers as bait for intelligent life and that the Geth and a reaper are about to attack. You then fight off the reapers as they attack the Citadel and buy humanity some time for the inevitable invasion. Awesome stuff and while I hate the way the word has been overused lately, it was rather epic in scope.
But Mass Effect 2 was just:
You recruit some squad members and attack a collector base.
Again, dont get me wrong, I loved it and played for 10+ hours each day since I bought it until I finished it. But the story just wasnt there. At all.
So, apparently something with my imported Savegame is borked. I just met Spoiler (highlight to read):
Konrad Verner on Illium and he said I mistreated him. I´m playing my all Paragon save though, so there is no way I did that in ME1. Someone experienced something similar?

Yeah I got that feeling. At first it was like 'oh hey cool I can recruit whoever I want and they all have back story missions''. And then you realise that that is the entire game. Very few central plot line missions (there's like 2-3?), and the side quests are short and shit for thr most part.Spidery_Yoda wrote:

the plot of ME3's is gonna be awesome
I started a 2nd playthrough as the Infiltrator and it's incredibly boring compared to the oh so awesome Vanguard I played as last time.
I think I might just start again as a Vanguard, he's that fun. He makes me want to be able to just play all the combat parts of the game at once.
Maybe i'll be an Adept instead.

It may seem short for now, but wait for massive dlc's. There is a hovertank to be added to the cargo hold, opposite the shuttle. so who knows! If dragon age is getting 2 yrs worth of DLC, ME2 will most likely be the same.

I want my shit on a disc. Is this so fucking hard for people to understand.
Also; epic game. Do like. A lot. The levelling system could use a little more depth but otherwise pretty epic.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
Yeh I like having a hard-copy for nostalgia playthroughs in the future... when DLC servers will surely be dead...Flecco wrote:

I just can't face the reality that we will have to wait 1-2 years for ME3 ;_;
Seeing harbinger and the other reapers in Dark Space was such a massive cliffhanger emotionally...

Yeah, but saying that you actually see them is. Plus, I havn´t come across the name Harbinger so far.
Considering it took them 3 yrs to release ME2, Im seeing them take their time for the grand finale. I bought ME 1 weeks ago to prepare for ME2, so this is especially hard for me since i didnt have to wait in between the two. 3 fucking yrs?

They said they want to release it before the 360's life cycle ends... so figure it'll come out in 2012.destruktion_6143 wrote:

No you hear him say "releasing control" while looking at a reaper hologram after which it fades to a picture of Harbinger (the reaper) where the fleet appears behind him in a huuuuge cinematic moment *cue dramatic music*
which imo translates to the collector leader itself beeing remotely "possessed" by harbinger the reaper, just like it was able to possess the collector drones...
Look through the last part of this (from 6:35 to be exact).. MASSIVE SPOILERS IN VID

Ohhhh...I thought he wanted to release control of whatever, but didn't make it because his...claw thingy didn't touch the controls, and his eyes faded.
Edit: Also, I assume you lose the characters you lost at the end forever if you continue in ME3? I lost Garrus and Tali. (And Jack, but I never liked her.)

Yeah, i lost jack (no loyalty) Zaeed (fire team) and Legion (Specialist). But there is an award for not losing anyone... Are there specific people that are the perfect fit for the specialist and fire team that would survive? Im really wondering...

Yeah, i lost jack (no loyalty) Zaeed (fire team) and Legion (Specialist). But there is an award for not losing anyone... Are there specific people that are the perfect fit for the specialist and fire team that would survive? Im really wondering...
Miranda = Squad leader as she has obvious leader experience and confidence
Legion = Specialist since he is geth and has the computing power of 10x normal geth mobile platforms, + he can communicate data at the speed of light...
I suppose Tali could be specialist aswell since she is a tech'ie but I haven't tried since I <3 her as a character:3
Samara = Biotic barrier in swarm room, she has 400 years of experience using biotics as her weapon and she is obviously more powerfull than Subject Zero (remember, Jack is only the most powerfull HUMAN biotic)
Grunt = crew escort (he is a 1 krogan army)
100% survived in my first playthrough... even the entire crew (do this by going through omega4 as soon as the IFF is online and EDI has killed the collectors on the normandy)

I had Legion as specialist, but got shot in the face.... Do i need to purchase every single upgrade before going thru the omega 4? i had just a few left. Also, I only got one alternate weapon for everything, apart from my heavy, but i've seen vides of HMG's and stuff...depends on difficulty?

Just make sure you have all the upgrades for the normandy except for the med-bay.. I guess you didn't make it before Legion got fried by the heat in the pipes.. (there is a timer counting down for you to reach the panels)... And you need to have accomplished the loyalty mission for each squad member (see red ring under their feet in selection = loyal)
Spoiler (highlight to read):
As for weapons, when you enter the collector ship for the first time, you will shortly after entering, find a pile of weapons, here you can either train a weapon type, or select a heavy weapon for a type you already have trained.. furthermore, there is a Geth pulse rifle to be found on Tali's recruiting mission on higher difficulties..
Special weapons found on collector ship are:
HMG (some sapient bosses use this)
Krogan Shotgun (same as grunt uses after upgrading)
Heavy Sniper (same as the one legion uses when upgraded) <- This can one-shot-kill normal collector drones on insane difficulty when used with the infiltrator cloak and headshots
