First: Searched for Trilby, this didn't come up.
So I gave in today while searching for silly little games that would keep me entertained without being too time consuming, and remembered Trilby. For some reason, I decided to download and try it, and it's actually a lot better than I'd have expected. I know it looks boring and having Yahtzee (the maker) in a game might be a little off-putting, but there's almost no trace of him in the game.
Trilby exists as the main character, a thief who steals for profit. And professionalism. You play as him, taking on the rich one building at a time, earning reputation points to spend on new skills which will not only make your job easier, but also allow you to earn more per level. It's very much a sneaky, Assassin's Creed style game (except your aim is to harm nobody...physically anyway), and is coupled with a story that is actually somewhat engaging. And it takes just as much skill as any other game, sometimes more as you expand your skills. The graphics aren't the best on the planet, but it fits nicely with the simple (and yet, very hard to master) gameplay, and really, for the harder levels, you'll be thankful that the levels are laid out in ways that makes objectives and entry points obvious (and even then there are hidden treasures). The controls, while appearing to be restrictively simple at first, can be carried out in quick succession to get the player out of tight spots. Top this all off with Yahtzee's dry humour in Trilby's quips, and you've got a winning free game, well worth the download.
