Sorry, but I fail to see how the iPhone OS outdoes the Android OS. I really don't see how it's a better phone. A better media phone, certainly, but a better smart phone? Not by a long shot.

The apple mice have 2 buttons under neath the single top... You can left click and right click as per usual...

The only ones you could was these mice:

With the laptops, you just tap with 2 fingers instead of one to right click.

This site don't look so pretty on the iPhone screen... Doesn't scale so well. Paid my £600 earlier and have been enjoying settin up the phone with lots of genuinely useful apps, as well as compiling an awesome address book using a greasemonkey sync with my facebook phonebook.  The map and compass were impressive to watch in realtime as I drove home in the car. Very neat. This message has taken way too long to type though, fml when it comes to touchscreen typing! x

Surely there's a "Proper QWERTY Keyboard" app available for the iPhone, I never got used to the gay traditional mobile phone keyboard layout. Thank fuck my current BB has a normal keyboard that I'm used to

Bloody Christ. You must have rich parents.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Did you really shell out 600 GBP for it? WOW. I could have had the 3GS with a new contract for a fraction of that.

Ya, I'm also still waiting to hear how the iPhone OS beats out Android? Everything you can do, I can do (and sometimes better). BF2s works perfectly fine on the Android browser and just as good on the Dolphin browser (what? you can't install a different browser on your iPhone? shame). Pages automatically adjust to the right width when I rotate the phone to landscape. Portrait mode isn't the best, but if I zoom out one or two clicks, I can still read the text and the page looks great.

Ahhhh ... the joys of living with a robot.

The portrait adjustment and zoom features all both in safari as well, utilized on a bigger screen too and the whole point of me paying 600 smackers for the phone is so that I can avoid the contract costs… you'll be paying a lot more than that for a 3gs over a 12 month contract. I also got it with 50 of calling credit so the overall PAYG price isn't all that bad!

pretty good, actually... i found a few ones that I would list "must have" (weather app, google places/skymap), some neat ones (sound pressure meter, network media remote) and some fun ones (aka games, like DOOM, or solitare)

Apps and plugins for Android are absolutely fabulous. I've got a free PDF reader (took a bit to find a free one that also didn't render the files on a server vs on the phone), and it works nice. Like Morpheus said, there is a list of must-haves. If you live in the US, all Android phones (minus the HTC Hero which is still running Android 1.5 because of the Sense UI, though Android 2.1 is supposed to work with HTC's Sense UI) now have FREE (TOTALLY FREE!) turn-by-turn navigation built into the Google Maps app. And Google Maps is FREE. Yep - the pot just got a whole lot sweeter (though the update has been out for a few weeks now; but it's a shame it's only available for American users). Google Maps still will do navigation elsewhere, but it won't be like a GPS turn-by-turn, you'll have to read the directions off the screen, but if you have a partner in the car, no worries there.

Flash is supposed to also come to Android some time, though it's up to Google and Adobe to get that out the door. Apple doesn't seem to want to play ball in this respect, however.

But again, the trump cards for Android phones are these:
- The Market is essentially totally open. So if there is an app out there that does a job better than the built-in (Dolphin Browser, for example) or has features you would rather have that the default does not, you can install it. Apple doesn't allow developers to duplicate native functions on the iPhone. That being said, Apple's decision on what does and does not go into the App Store is very arbitrary.

- Multi-tasking. I can't say this enough. If you've played with a Blackberry or a Windows Mobile phone, you know what I mean when I say this. Not having to start over when you close an app or back out the home screen or switch to a different app via one of the push notifications along the top bar. It's absolutely fabulous.

Yeah i think even on Orange pay monthly, 18 month minimum contract it'll cost you nearly £800. Obviously you get bundled minutes and texts with that so it depends on your usage of course. And you still have to pay out £275 for the handset.

Either way, you pay!

What network did you buy it on?

+2,865|6685
Orange payg, better network coverage for wifi and 3g nationwide I think according to studies. On their Dolphin package so I get free unlimited texts and Internet surfing if I top up like a tenner a month. Can't really go wrong with that!

Btw Nismo you seem overly stressful of the fact that apps are free and can be multitasked. Most of the decent apps for function and utility are free on the iPhone too, the AppStore only charges normally for games and for advanced third part software that definitely warrants the costs. Google maps
and directions are also standard, enhanced significantly by the compass and orientation features. Flash and satnav style map planning are both rumoured in later updates or the next generation model in June or July. This 3gs is quite old compared to a lot of newer android phones, and they're hardly wiping the floor with it!

I'm not stressing that apps are free. What I am stressing is the multitasking abilities that mobile OS's like WinMo, Blackberry OS and Android all offer that the iPhone OS does not (although at the same time trying to market itself as a legitimate enterprise device).

You guys have Google Maps, fine - but I doubt you guys have free turn-by-turn navigation built in to it for American users. If so, I missed that somewhere in my blogs. As far as I know, if you want that functionality, you have to plop down some serious change for one of the GPS apps (TomTom, for instance).

A lot of the apps on the iPhone 'multi-task' and run simultaneously, it's just that the Home button effectively works as the 'bring up taskbar' button-- yes, you do have to navigate through every app by going back to the Home and then selecting which you want, but it's not as simple or crude as only having one open at a time. That said, some apps WILL only run in a single-instance, so I can see where you're coming from. Depends, really.

That's nice and all, but there is an audible difference between my macbook pro audio out and my DAC, when using headphones.. for one the DAC doesn't have any line noise..
Right, the sound chip in your laptop represents every sound card on the market.
