Me and the classics are like cats with new beds: I usually have to discover them on my own. Years and years of teachers spamming cliche book report assignments at me like Great Expectations, selected because it's all they know, have turned me off of (most) moldy oldies that have come recommended.

I can try to follow this, but I can't make any guarantees.

I just finished The Road after seeing some recommendation for it here IIRC, but I was a bit disappointed with it after hearing a lot of good things. I'll concede that it was a compelling read since it took only 2 days to finish, but the story wasn't particularly exciting, it did not provoke thought, and I felt the ending rather cheap as well.

Next up: The Picture of Dorian Gray

Maybe you have to have a kid of your own to get emotionally involved. I know it had quite the opposite effect on me that it did on you.

As for uzique's idea...I'm neck-deep in a course right now and won't be able to participate (as much as I'd like to) until I get through at least my first exam.

Ugh, I expect this to take much longer than my previous book. Between the actual reading, occasionally switching to the notes, and looking up the words I don't know in the dictionary, I imagine this shall occupy me for some time.

One of the versions of this book (not entirely sure its this one) has a lot of background material, how they made the sound effects, some of the reasons behind the edits (Slartibartfast was originially Phartiphucborlz but was changed at the last minute - which is why the book makes no sense on that).

I also have the entire CD released radio show as MP3s, and the original radio show on tape (just need a tape deck and a phono input for my PC....)
