It's better than CoD4 but then again that doesn't give much merit... it's not hard for a design team to simply identify and improve upon the faults of a multi-award winning game to then 'create' a game that is utterly astounding. Not that Call of Duty 5 is astounding, it's actually disappointingly average considering the potential that the license and setting had. They've basically reskinned CoD4 and renamed the guns and perks as to suit the Pacific Theater- it's a great game, but Treyarch hardly deserve a rapturous round of applause for the job they've done. How did they manage to royally balls up the sound-engine, when all they had to do was record different samples and gun noises? They didn't really have to inferere with the technicalities of that at all... it worked previously on console and PC very well in Call of Duty 4.
I prefer this game over CoD4 ultimately, but my reservation is that I'm pretty sure I prefer it because of my predilection towards WWII shooters, as opposed to a rating based on the qualitative factors and merits of the game itself. I would have still liked something a little more 'true' to Call of Duty 1 or Call of Duty 2, but that is unfeasibly unrealistic in a modern-world where game companies don't want to make any effort unless they're launching the title as a cash-earner in the console markets. I'll carry on playing this when it's released, if only because the current selection of online FPS games (except TF2) is utterly dire and banal. Nothing decent or mindblowing has been released in years now, I'm starting to grow longingly nostalgic for the glory-days of COD1/COD2... I guess this will have to do in order to relive them .

As if that even has a minute modicum of difficulty in a game where you can rinse and repeat the Artillery / Dogs combo to devastating effect. Got to love how players can most-often survive being shot at with a bolt-action rifle, but then get insta-killed by the pawing of a German Shepherd canine. Lollercaust!

i've been thinking about preordering this game for about the last 6 weeks, but it comes out around the same time as gtaiv.
as i haven't played either this beta or gtaiv on a console, what would you advise? atm i'm thinking about buying gtaiv & squeezing a few more months out of bf2 with the forthcoming 1.5 patch.

As opposed to that chopper that just hovers around kicking your ass that you can do almost nothing about, the dogz is a cool (and fun) addition to the game.

Considering this is a BETA, and the black-screen is such a widely-reported issue, I'm sure there will be a patch or fix before or shortly after retail launch.
Besides, isn't the black-screen caused either by an old version of DirectX or an incompatible graphics card? (i.e. one that doesn't support CoD5's Pixel Shader)
