The game is a bit buggy at times. (I've had a few clipping errors along with a CTD) However, the gameplay is something that is fun to play. I think my biggest complaint over the whole thing is that the spawn points are stuck at close quarters which kinda ruins the aspect of being a sniper.
Well i'm going to assume this is why we have beta's. Is to iron out the kinks in the game before release. However... the sounds in the game and the dogs have to go... seriously dogs???
I'll consider it depending on how good the tube is... any reports so far?
I can see where this is going. The few who got the beta up and running say it´s fun. As they said with Cod4. But after they played for a few hours, ranked up to the max, most of them gonna start complain about how crappy the game is, how annoying this or that perk is, how it´s not challenging to rank up in such a short amount of time, blah blah...
What annoys me the most is the fact, that treyarch said they started developing years ago and the only thing they came up with is a CoD4 WWII setting. They had a big chance of doing something to make a name outta themselves, but they are most likely going to repeat the fail that CoD3 was. gg treyarch!

The main thing is that the game is actually well fun, and it's exactly what I need, a continuation of CoD4, because i'm starting to get a bit bored of running circles around nubs on PS3.
And the issue with all the factions having the same weapons, when is the last time you saw a Spetsnaz soldier sporting an M16? (Lets see if anyone gets this.)

To be fair the PC version has ten-levels of console style Prestige Mode, and there are 65(?) ranks. From my playing experience I also believe that the ranks have slightly higher XP requirements-- I'm not saying it's a BF2 ranking system - but I am stating that the game will have a much greater lifespan for the average casual Joe Bloggs. Besides that, the main 'core' community for Call of Duty, the people that have been playing competitively since Call of Duty 1, always play a modded and stripped-down version of the game anyway; perks, dodgy weapons and ridiculous artillery/dogs will probably just be disabled through community modding. The core gameplay as said before is actually pretty damn fun, so it isn't exactly a massive flopping failure.Sisco10 wrote:

They do have a bit of a task ahead of them to diagnose and repair the diabolical sound-system though. For the people that don't suffer constant crash-to-desktops and black screens of death - the actual people that get to play and experience the game - the sound is still terrible. Using your audio as well as your sight has always been a huge part of Call of Duty's gameplay, and they have completely dropped the ball on this one. Not being able to hear bomb-plants and bomb defuses is absolutely criminal, just think how integral those audio elements were to games to Counter-Strike and the earlier Call of Duty predecessors.

Yeah, I have a problem with this as well. At least with modern factions, you can kinda get away with some of the weapons being used by everyone, but it's not the same in WWII. While playing last night, there were some people asking if Japan used the Thompson, and someone replied that they must have because it's in the game... I think it would be better to start off with an Ariska, Mosin-Nagant, Enfield, and Garand and then just move up from thereMint Sauce wrote:

The ranking system is alot better than COD4, alot more XP is needed for the ranks, and there are 65 then the 10 levels of prestige!
I haven't had a single black screen or anything like that, and the game has run perfectly fine like a new game, the only thing that annoys me is the shitty sound!

Sound was reduced to make the download size far less.White-Fusion wrote:

Does it feel like a new game, or just a cod4 mod?
It feels like a 'new game' in the same sense that Call of Duty 4 felt like a 'new game' over Call of Duty 1/2.TheAussieReaper wrote:

Minor changes and some new features but the same basic engine, same gameplay formula.

Feels like a really well done COD4 mod, a mod worth paying money for. Like I said ages ago, it's a ww2 version of COD4 with a couple new things. Nothing more nothing less! it's still brilliant though!TheAussieReaper wrote:

I actually liked the short amount of time it took to rank up in CoD4. As the IW guys stated on the collector´s edition DVD, the ranking system was implemented to guide players to and through multiplayer step by step, without overwhelming them with perks and weapons and possibilities from the beginning on. I don´t need a Bf2-like ranking system that makes you play with weapons, classes or things you don´t even like, just to get a new medal to satisfy some questionable ambition.Uzique wrote:

But they could have done way better at improving the gameplay for the casual player, which I believe represent the majority of players. Instead of looking at CoD4 and taking away the annoyances, they even added some. Dogs? Seriously. The chopper could be avoided by finding some overhead-cover at least. I don´t even mind the airstrikes/artillery, cause they miss as often as they hit (at least on public).
But in hardcore mode there shouldn´t be such thing, it´s just retarded.
And they could at least have tried to keep some of the weapons side-based only.
The sound´s most likely gonna be okay, but I´m worried about some major balance issues regarding the weapons (bolt action/automatic).
So far, I´m pretty sure the few new things arn´t worth the purchase.
i am starting to have some issues now. i have been kicked twice so far for "no free entities" wtf is that?
Widespread error message, not sure if there's a definite fix. Generally about 90% of the problems are caused by the Windows sound-settings conflicting with the game engine, or just general exceptions in the sound engine- if there's a concrete fix I'll let you know. I've also been kicked from a server once because of a self-created problem with the respawns, haha. No respawns available- haha!usmarine wrote:

I like the fact that it was made with DX9c. It shows that great games still can be made with it.
Great games are made with anything newer? .Naturn wrote:

CoD4 was non-DX10 as well, the quality is all in the textures and lighting effects. Good, solid engine.

I played for 5 minutes and got a message saying cd key already in use on another computer >/
What I meant was the fact that M$ was pushing DX10 but not too many games are coming out using it. I personally didn't like Crysis but other people seem to like it.Uzique wrote:

Yeah DX10 is worthless IMO. Huge framerate drops with very little difference in quality.
In Crysis the difference was barely noticable. Except for the drop in framerate I mean.

Here are some screenshots for those who don't have or want to play the beta.
