Cant find any servers

Haven't played COD4 for awhile and thought i'd take a couple of rounds but it cant locate any MP servers

It should be up to date via steam, SP works fine but when refreshing the MP server list nothing updates ... contact with master server takes a second, no servercount ... nothing ...

I guess the obvious thing like check your firewalls etc . Are you sure its patched? What version does it say in console?

Says 1.7.568 or something like that ... firewall settings are the same as last time i played, am scanning the cod4 forum for leads on what it could be ...

If you can't get anything else worked out, use the X-fire server browser, and when you find one you like, copy the IP and use the /connect iphere command.

Hmm. Found this on a forum, hope it works.

1.

Ok first go to C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\(Your profile name)\ and there you will find a file called config_mp.cfg

2.

Open the file config_mp.cfg with Wordpad not notepad! And then add this line in the text; seta net_port "28960"
Then save file.
And for every othere computer change the nr by 1
Like pc 1 is 28960, pc 2 is 28961, pc 3 is 28962, and so on and so on.(only if there are more then 2 computers)

3.

Go to -Start- then -Control Panel- and go to -Windows Firewall-press the -Exceptions- tab then -Add Port- add the port nr you wrote early(28960)
Remember to add it 2 times once as a -TCP- and once as a -UDP-. It dosent matter what name you give it (I called my ports -cod4 port 1- and the second one -cod4 port 2-)

Nah ... it didn't help, also prolonged the connection time from 10 seconds to 25 but still "server connection times out" ... could be the router that is messing it up, will check that ...

I have heard that PB can cause problems. The game does not seem to want to update, causing endless looping.

Try /pb_sv_update

I guess theres always a clean install. What about your router? Do you have your COD4 ports open? Pretty sure it just needs 28960-28960.

Try a new profile, if not then re-install is probably your best bet.

To keep your profile..

E:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles

And copy the folder that has your profile name on it, then paste it onto your desktop. Once installed, re-navigate to that place and paste that folder back.

before you re-install the game, update punkbuster (steamapps -> common -> cod4 -> pb -> pbsetup - something like that, I don't have CoD4 installed atm).

if that doesn't work, in steam, right click the game and press "delete local content", it should put itself in the "uninstalled games" section. double click and it'll re-install

I would also go into your steam folder afterwards and delete the residual folders, just to be sure.

EDIT:
The folders from COD4, obviously, not steam or whatever, lol.

the server seach system of COD4 is pretty problematic from what i hear. finding an open game for X360 is no different either.
