I'm also scared I'll relive another Crysis, where I expect to run beautiful graphics with good performance but end up having to run Medium graphics with no anti-aliasing at 25FPS.
Nah. 8800GTS here and I run on max with 4x anti-aliasing. You will be fine.

Also, don't get it. It's a complete waste of money.

Because it's really boring.

There is very little plot, I'm 47% done and there's only been like 2 things that have happened.

The missions are all the same, and there's not all that many ways to go about doing them.

You have to drive everywhere, or use the buses, but there's only 5 bus stations and they're at the far corners of the map and the center, so it's still a very long drive to get anywhere. The drive wouldn't be as bad if you didn't have to repair your car every time you go through an intersection, which are guarded by 5 or 6 guys who respawn every 5 minutes.

While it claims to be open world the game is incredibly linear, there's generally only 1 mission for you at a time, so you don't really get to "choose your side" Not to mention, other than the missions there is NOTHING to do. No point in exploration, not many side quests (which are all the same anyways)

The game's AI that was advertised as being nothing short of genius in reality is closer to braindead, Your "Buddies" will get themselves killed, wasting your valuable syrettes, and every enemy within 10km knows exactly where you are when you fire your first shot with a suppressed makarov.

While the graphics are pretty they are nowhere near as good as crysis, meaning that if all you care about is how it looks, don't waste your money.

Ah, no WONDER you're so damn negative all the time!
Yahtzee is a critic, as such it's his job to be overly critical. Few critics will admit to this but writing a bad review is 1,000x more entertaining to write and read/watch and as such no matter how good something is a lot of critics will tear it to shreds unless it caters to their tastes exactly. Most reviewers, (there is a difference between a reviewer and a critic,) take a look at the wider picture, look at how a game will be for the wider public, not just themselves.

In saying that, reviewers are also whores to the gaming industry. They are the nega-critics, thy will say a game's great when it's only good where a critic will say a game's horse-shit when it's only not-all-that-good.

Also, Ben Croshaw is the alpha angry game critic. He's also incredibly funny and as such is easy to agree with. Take his reviews with a grain of salt, even if a game is good-but-not-perfect Croshaw has a talent to make you focus on every single negative the game has until a game he's actually saying is good sounds like he's saying it's a pile of crap. Example; his recent Silent Hill review he actually said the game was pretty good then spent the next three and a half minutes destroying it.

Also, if you go into a game with a sense of negativity there is a 99% chance that you will not like the game. Look at Sam, he' playing exactly the same game you are and he's enjoying it; looking at your respective attitudes pre-release it's fairly obvious where the difference lies. Croshaw's advice to "never look forward to a game because you'll only be disappointed" is bollocks, if you're continually expecting something to be shit then you'll find that everything you encounter will be shit, I'm confident this is why Croshaw himself is a bitter and twisted personification of pure cynicism.

I too am a critic, and have agreed with him on pretty much every point he's made (with a few exceptions)

But when you say I wasn't going in with a positive attitude, that's only partially true. When I first heard about the game I went with my usual "I know nothing about it so it will probably be shit" idea, but as I heard more about it I became genuinely excited about it (a mistake I often make) After having played it most of the things that looked so good (Immersion, Storyline, AI) ended up being bad or practically nonexistent.

I completely understand that Yahtzee's job is to slam games, he's said that on multiple occasions "I know it's not particularly funny to like a game but FUCK YOU Portal's great" But he's liked almost every game I have and made the same points I have as to why a bad game is "horse-shit"

To be honest, a lot of games in the late 90's (not saying any names...) had a lot of really good features which still aren't incorporated into new games. Far Cry 2 was the first game since *ugh* System Shock 2 that I've seen weapon degrading in, and I much prefered SS2's, It fit in well with the game's SciFi Horror environment and actually flowed. When you picked up an enemy's gun it was generally pretty badly damaged, but if you trained your repair skill you could fix it up before getting your ass handed to you in combat.

i decided to pick it up anyway, and i'm enjoying it.however, zimmer and miggle are right about a few things.

first off, there is quite a bit of driving, but it doesn't really bother me. i actually enjoy searching for the diamonds while on my way back from a mission so i can pick up a few more weapons. it's a lot like an FPS version of GTA. you can pretty much go anywhere you want, although not all of it is accessible in a vehicle. if you're trying to blow through the game as fast as humanly possible then yes, the traveling will annoy you. however, i like to take my time with games so it suits me well.

next let's talk about the AI. you can try to be as stealthy as you want, but chances are unless you sneak up directly behind a guy they will see you from about 20 yards off and start staring you down. if you try to move or get closer they call out to the other guards and then you have about 5-8 people creeping towards you. at this point a firefight is inevitable. you can sneak behind cover and get away from most of them, but another guard that you didn't see will find you, and then all hell breaks loose. a good number of times i've actually managed to cut a guy down with a machete from behind, but the bastard screams and the rest of them come running. maybe it's realistic, maybe it isn't, but either way it is very hard to use any sort of stealth tactics in this game.

ah the guard post issue. normally this isn't a big deal to me because i enjoy the firefights. however, a certain instance i ran into today pissed me off. i was doing a mission for the weapon shop in which i had to destroy a competitor's inventory, and the truck that was carrying the goods stopped right in the middle of a fucking outpost, making things a lot more difficult. after failing as usual to ambush the guards in a forest and shooting down a good 10-12 of them, i was finally alone at the outpost. i had used up all of my AK rounds and syringes, so healing was no longer an option. it was just me and the truck, so i chucked a grenade at it and it exploded, sending the truck about 10 feet off the ground and into a ditch off the road (very satisfying). the "Mission Complete" text appeared on my screen, so i thought i'd go back to the shop and pick up some new toys. i walk to my car, and just before i get in i hear "There he is! Over there!" i turn around and there's the same fucking 10 guys sprinting toward me from the guard post blasting me with AK's. this was literally 30 seconds after i had killed them all, fucking ridiculous. needless to say with no syringes and 2 bars of health left they dropped me, and i had to be saved by one of my buddies. -.-

on the plus side, the graphics are  beautiful. i don't care what anybody else says, they're fucking great. the lighting is incredible, so much so that a simple screen shot doesn't do it justice. you have to see it in motion. the gunplay is also top notch, and the guns and explosions sound awesome. oh, and don't forget the fire.

yeah, but then you have to fight the two jeeps, the IED can be detonated from a safe distance, and then you can watch them try to figure out what the hell just happened

This game is very fun
Just took out some king in his palace.
Used a sniper and a mini uzi, kept jamming tho made it interesting
Running it on a 88GTS(512) 1920x1200 Very-Ultra High 0xAA 30fps.
Very contented with the engine so far.

As at this rate my copy will never come, I'm getting the pirated version in the mean time, courtesy of SpamTheBan:D. Could anyone PM me the crack.

Note to mods: this doesn't count as piracy as I legally pwn the game.
